Who this visa is for
- Spouse of a Colombian national with a valid marriage.
- Permanent partner with a properly documented marital union (requirements vary — we check before filing).
- In some cases, other family routes (parents/children of a Colombian) — evaluated separately, not as “marriage visa”.
What Cancillería actually looks at
A marriage certificate is the start, not the whole case. Officers look for a real relationship and a consistent timeline. Recent marriages are possible, but they need stronger evidence of cohabitation and shared life.
- Civil marriage record or union evidence recognized in Colombia.
- Colombian ID of the national + passport of the foreign spouse.
- Proof of life together when the category expects it.
- Apostilles and sworn translations for foreign documents.
- Financial/support documents requested for the category.
Why foreigners pay for a law firm (not a form-filler)
DIY filings fail on apostilles, the wrong visa class (visitor vs migrant), or a story that does not match dates. The study fee is not refunded. We audit the DS-style application data, the civil file, and the narrative you will have to sustain if Cancillería asks questions.
